This sled weighs next to nothing and looks cool -- but that is about all it has going for it. My kids can't steer it, and, frankly, neither can I. It is prone to spinning like a saucer. If you enjoy the sensation of spinning, you are better off buying a rigid plastic saucer, which will be cheaper and will slide faster.The thin plastic "skin" on the bottom also makes for a very squeaky sounding ride. I purchased this for Christmas for my kids, along with a Wham-o Snow Boogie Skeleton II. Fortunately I also bought 2 of the Wham-O Skeleton II sleds for my wife and I. Even with the molded runners, both of my girls spun around and could not control these Wham-O GT Graphics sleds. The one time I tried it I went down head first on my belly and got a face full of snow. The front of the sled curves down slightly and can carve into the snow and spray you pretty good. Not fun if you're going face first. So of course as soon as I got it, i couldn't wait to go try it out. The first time I tried this sled, it didn't work. My other 5 year old, beat-up sled rode better than that thing. That's not an exaggeration. When I went downhill I got a face full of snow and it went down my jacket too and made my whole body freeze. This is because of an obvious design flaw. You see the front of a sled should be tilted up so it does not pick up any snow along the way. The Whamo GT, contrary to the pictures, does not have a titled front. It is almost all flat. This enables it to drag snow while going downhill, and as that is happening, the snow is building up. When it gets too high, the snow tumbles over onto your sled, in your face, and possibly down you jacket (as in my case). I highly recommend that you DO NOT get this sled unless you're like to sled on flat surfaces. What I do recommend is a Whamo Snowboogie. This is that "5 year old, beat-up sled"... Read more |
